Her Bad Mother

Bad Friday

Ordinarily, when WonderBaby gets sick - which is to say, every single time she has ever gotten sick - you wouldn't know it to look at her. She remains bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and ever-inclined to climb bookcases and o'er-leap small sectionals and such, and while this can be very, very frustrating, it nonetheless keeps worry at bay.

Which is why today, I'm worried. She is feverish - which happens - and limp-limbed and quiet and malaised - which never, ever happens, not with her.

So off to the hospital we go. This is the part of parenting that sucks the most, the very most: the knots of worry that pull at your gut, that sicken you, when there seems to be something wrong with your child, something that you can't figure out but you know is bad. I hate this.

UPDATE: Infected tonsils; possibly strep throat; very definitely sick, sick, sick and contagious (which means, mommy-kisses need to be limited). Have to wait and see how she responds to treatment now. Poor baby. POOR MOMMY.

Oh, I'm sorry you have to go through this. As a veteran of WAY too much hospital time and ER visits w/Nik, I can understand and appreciate the worry. And no matter what anyone says, it doesn't get easier the more you do it. Sending good health and peaceful easy weekend thoughts your way.

She'll be alright, but I hear you on the fear. Good luck at the ER, I hope the wait isn't too long and that Wonderbaby is back climbing bookcases soon.

Hope she feels better real soon. When Little Miss was a baby, she never slept not even when she was sick. One time she got sick and all she did was sleep, I got worried. For a baby who slept for an hour at a time to go to sleeping for 5 hours straight, I was right to worry. But her doctor just kept telling me, when kids get sick, they sleep, stop worrying.
I would not let it go and he finally said bring her in and it turned out she had a massive bladder infection. Guess Momma knows better than a doctor anyday.
I would say don't worry all will be fine, but we all know that if your kid is sick, your going to worry.Good Luck.

I'm so sorry your little one is sick, I hope everything is okay and she perks up soon! It's horrible to see the kids when they are REALLY sick. Please let us know how she's doing!

I hope all is well. One of mine does that when she's sick because she stops drinking and gets dehydrated. So frustrating and worrying.

Oh, I hope she's alright soon. It's so so scary to have your normally crazy kid just lie around on the floor, and I speak from doing it far too often for my liking.

Hope she's back to her climbing self right skippy.

blake is the same way. he is ALWAYS running around and acting like he's perfectly fine when he's totally sick. nothing ever changes.

UNLESS he has a fever. that's the only thing that can potentially knock him out and make him rest. he had a fever last month for FIVE DAYS!!!!!!!!! and the shitty tihng about fevers is that you can't really do anything for them. ugh.

hope she feels better soon. and you hang in there as well. smooches!

I think all of us, as parents, go thru the 'I wish I was a Doctor' blues. In the end, we make the best choices we can- given our lack of medical experience. Once they are able to talk, it gets easier to figure out if they need to see a doctor or not- sometimes...my 12yo told me she broke her arm 7 yrs ago and I told her to relax and go take a bath. In the end, we learned she was more of a doctor than her Dad and I.

I hope she's ok. Parents know when their child is really ill - one of these days, doctors will wise up and start believe us.

Healthy thoughts to Wonder Baby.

Oh god, not strep! Awful! I had it this winter and very specifically thought that no child should ever be in that kind of pain. I hope everyone wells up soon.

I don't really know how the whole link-back thing works, but here's my post on the current theme: succinic.blogspot.com

My best wishes go with you.

I just came back from the doctor's too. However my daughter has an ear infection. so she is still running around like a little maniac but occassionally tugs on her ear & starts whining. however the inevitable antibiotic wrestling will begin tonight. My daughter hates antibiotics & makes it virtually impossbile to give it to her.
Hope your child is feeling better soon--it is horrible when your kids are sick!!

Aw, poor thing. And way to listen to your instincts..it generally pays off when we don't ignore things we know to be true. Hope she's feeling a lot better soon.

I feel your pain.

And Wonderbaby's as I'm sick with strep myself. As is my son.

It would be more fun to have an enema.

Just sayin'.

I hope she feels better soon. And I hope there is no strep for you. My kids never get it, but somehow I always end up getting it. And it's no fun. But with treatment, you feel better really soon. Hope it's like that for Wonderbaby!

No matter how much you may wish for

peace

quiet

when they're jumping off the wall, and the endless racket

the silence in sickness

it's deafening and sad.

(wishing good, healthy thoughts for the wonder-family.)
